The cold weathers temperature and moisture an have significant effects on hydraulic lifts, it can affect the lifts performance and reliability.
Low temperatures can mean hydraulic fluid thickens (the opposite effect of hot motor rooms). This can lead to unreliable operation and downtime.
Old hydraulic passenger lifts often feature an external motor rooms on the outside of a building, where temperatures can get very hot in summer, but very cold in winter.
The extreme temperatures can also have an effect on the lift control system or other equipment.

How We Can Help
- Undergo regular lift maintenance (minimum of 2 visits per year)
- Ensure the lifts have two LOLER inspections yearly (the legal minimum)
- Keep motor room, lift shaft and door area temperatures between 15c and 25c.
- Ensure all urgent work or LOLER advice is always complete.
- Implement preventative strategies recommended by your lift company.
