What are LOLER inspections?
LOLER inspections are mandatory assessments designed to ensure that lifting equipment is safe for use. Under the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER), all lifting equipment must be subject to regular thorough examinations by competent persons. These inspections are carried out are crucial for identifying any defects or issues that could compromise the safety of the equipment or the individuals operating it.
If you are responsible for the safe operation of a lift, then you are a duty holder under LOLER. You have a duty of care and legal responsibility to ensure every passenger lift, goods lift, and service lift has a thorough examination at least once or twice per annum dependent on the unit being examined. For instance, LOLER inspections for commercial lifts that move people must be completed every 6 months.
