Who doesn’t love the hot weather? with stunning scenery and everyone being in a good mood, its always a good time. We have also recently had a bank holiday, which means we have all been enjoying ourselves. As the heat looks like its here to stay for a bit and with summer coming up, its important to note the effects hot weather has on lifts.
What Effects The Hot Weather Can Have On Lifts
The cold weather (temperature and moisture) on hydraulic lifts can be significant, affecting their performance and reliability. Also, high temperatures can cause the hydraulic fluid to thin (opposite to cold motor rooms), which can result in unreliable operation and downtime. In addition to this, extreme temperatures can impact equipment and human safety.
Many old hydraulic passenger lifts have external motor rooms on the outside of a building that can get very hot in the summer or during a heatwave. Also, the extreme temperatures can effect lift equipment.
How To Reduce The Extreme Weather Effects
- Ensure the lifts are maintained regularly (2 visits per annum minimum).
- Undergo 2 LOLER inspections per annum (this is minimum).
- Keep the motor room temperature between 15c and 25c.
- Ensure the lift shaft and door area is also between 15c and 25c.
- Make sure urgent work or LOLER advice is always completed.
- Listen to the advice from the lift company on preventative work.
