Needing LOLER Inspection assistance? at Ascendant lifts, we can help you with your LOLERs. By law all lifts must have a LOLER inspection every 6 months (once a year for goods lifts).
The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 more commonly known as LOLER have strict regulations for safe lift equipment usage. Any lift that is used in work activities or everyday use needs to be thoroughly examined by a competent and qualified person. These laws apply to any lift or hoist that are used to lift people or loads.
A thorough examination is an examination of a lift and all its associated equipment. A qualified person completes these examinations. The objective of a LOLER examination is to scan for faults/defects that could potentially be dangerous.
The competent person will report any faults and issues to the dutyholder. if they think it is necessary, they may report it to the the enforcing authority (the Health and Safety Executive or local authority). In the event of dangerous issues, appropriate remedial action must be taken to fix any issues.
For the extent of the LOLER examination to be determined, several factors are present. The competent person will review all the main risks, such as:
- Where the lift is used
- Lift usage
- Age and condition of lift
- The weights of loads to be lifted
A thorough examination has the potential to include testing, if it is deemed necessary. The qualified person will usually determine what tests are needed, taking account of the relevant guidance and standards.
