Ascendant News: Training Success

This weeks news story centres around the huge effort put in by some of our fantastic engineers here at Ascendant, as they successfully completed important training courses, which safeguard themselves and the company, while also making the engineers working environment a happier and protected one!

Here at Ascendant Lifts & Escalators, we invest heavily into the training of our staff when it comes to health and safety.

Whether on site, in the office or travelling on our behalf, Ascendant engineers can be exposed to health and safety risks throughout their working day. As a result, we maintain a highly focused Health & Safety policy within the company, which sets out to achieve a 0% accident or near miss incident rate in every environment in which we work.

As a member of the Lift and Escalator Industry Association (LEIA), we are kept up to date with any changes to health & safety legislation, lift engineering standards, codes of practice or other recommendations. This week some of our engineers passed the below training courses with flying colours in the following areas…

  • Manual Handling
  • Slips and Trips
  • Working at Height
  • First Aid

Well done on another successful round of training lads! We couldn’t ask for a better team of engineers!

Ascendant News:

This week we’ve had good news in a variety of forms!

First stop, is at the Northumberland Arms pub in London, where we have successfully completed a complex and bespoke Dumbwaiter installation this week.

This unique lift car had to be specially designed and supplied so it could fit into the lift shaft, which can be quite a tricky task as it was a small and confined space.

This was completed with ease by our team in just under a one week turnaround, and our client is over the moon with the results of the project, as are we!

We’ve also had some great service contract wins in this week from our Service Sales Manager Justine.

Justine has secured maintenance contracts with a variety of fantastic local businesses this week, such as community centres, sports clubs and business centres in and around the North East.

Well done on another successful week Team Ascendant!

Ascendant News – A week of celebrations.

This weeks news is a little different today. As you know, our stories are usually good news in the form of contract wins, modernisation approvals or general lift and escalator success stories as standard!

This week though, we want to commemorate good news in the form of our fantastic team and their personal celebrations and milestones that have been shared with us in the office over the past few days.

Firstly, our Managing Director, Suzanne Lisle, is celebrating her birthday this Saturday 12th November. Anyone who knows Suzanne well knows she loves a good cake celebration! So that’s exactly what we’ve had in Ascendant HQ today, she also received a beautiful bouquet of birthday flowers alongside it.

Since taking over as Managing Director of the company in August, the business has gone from strength to strength with Suzanne’s expertise and knowledge, she really is the glue that holds our team together. Have a wonderful weekend Suzanne, from the whole Ascendant gang – all the best!

Some other lovely news this week comes in the form of a new little bundle of joy…

Our Business Development Manager, Tony, welcomed a new grandchild this week as his daughter gave birth to a bouncing baby boy.

Alfred Timothy Griffiths was born Wednesday 9th November and weighed 7lb 6oz. Both mother and baby are doing well, and we’ve now got another little member of the Ascendant squad to boast about – I’m sure we’ll make a lift engineer of him in no time!

We believe it is just as important to celebrate our team’s personal successes as well as their success in the workplace, and we strive to do always do just that here at Ascendant. Congrats to Tony, Suzanne and of course as previously mentioned, Marcus – on all your celebrations this week.

Another Month of Modernisation!!

The month of October was another successful one here at Ascendant Lifts & Escalators. We are delighted to share the news that we have been awarded the lift modernisation win at the picturesque Grand Atlantic Hotel in Weston-Super-Mare.

The Grand Atlantic Hotel is an elegant Victorian hotel that is set on the stunning seafront, offering breath-taking panoramic views of the Bristol Channel.

The Passenger lift on site dated all the way back to 1962 – which is older than most of us here in the Ascendant office! (And only 5 years older than our fantastic lift modernisation specialist Tony, sorry Tony!!)

As you can imagine, the lift which has been taking hotel guests up and down to the various floors for over 50 years and needed some restoration and repair to bring it up to a modern and reliable standard. You guessed it – that’s where we come in and work our Ascendant magic…

Following our survey and successful tender process we cannot wait to get stuck into yet another lift modernisation. This will completely rejuvenate the lift and bring the hotel up to date from a reliability and health and safety viewpoint with a more dependable piece of equipment available to the staff and public alike whilst leaving the hotels vibrant, periodic features untouched.
More to follow on this project once the equipment arrives at site and our engineer complete this complex project.

Elsewhere, we also have recently completed a modernisation at Lyndon Hall Care Home in West Bromwich.
Our client asked us to look an old and unreliable unit – we were on site the very next day to carry out our detailed survey so that we could submit our detailed proposal.
Following receipt of order and the ordering of the equipment from our preferred supplier we managed to complete the works within one week of site time.

Our works included new open protocol control system with shaft wiring and positioning system, new landing and car operating panels and indicators as well as various H&S upgrades. The works were tested and commissioned by our technical manager and handed back to the care home.

The home manager was thrilled with the finished product which has completely rejuvenated their passenger lift and brought some much-needed reliability – just another job well done from our fantastic Ascendant Team.
