Celebrating a great appointment!

This week we welcome Liam our new trainee Lift Engineer. Liam comes from a strong RAF background where he has gained vast knowledge and skills that we know can be transferrable to the lift industry. As Ascendant are members of the Armed Forces Covenant (AFC) we wanted to be able to give something back to people who have protected and fought for our country.  The aim of the covenant is to ensure that service personnel, their dependants and veterans are not disadvantaged in the provision of goods and services, compared with the rest of the population.

Our Managing Director Suzanne Lisle states, ‘’as an employer we understand it can often be difficult to find the perfect candidate and some industries are struggling to ‘fill’ a significant skills gap. One solution we have looked at is to consider recruiting ex-military personnel who have a breadth of aptitude, skills and training which are transferrable and could add real value to our business. We have previously found that Ex-forces candidates have a strong work ethic. Bringing values and ethics taught from their military training to the commercial workplace. As well as a strong work ethic and a focused attitude, employers have noted that ex-military workers are dedicated as well fully engaged with their job roles.’’

As Liam embarks on his new career at Ascendant Lifts, he will receive on the job practical experience through the guidance of his mentor which will prepare him for enrolment onto his NVQ 3 in Lift engineering Maintenance. We are excited for Liam’s future here at Ascendant and wish him a very long and successful career.
